We came across a great site providing a wealth of advice for crafters. From time to time we will post a synopsis of some of the articles (we know you don’t have time to read novels, you’ve got stuff to make!) and a link to the story in its entirety.

In this article Betty discusses everything from battling imported goods to keeping craft shows and flea markets alive. Here are some of the finer points:

You can’t compete with imported goods masquerading as handmade wares. The solution: differentiate your product from the posers out there.
Stop procrastinating when it comes to registering for shows and market dates. Many shows get canceled at the last minute because of perceived lack of participation. Keep shows going by registering early.
Don’t be afraid to sell a few high end pieces; your customers will reward the details and high quality materials.
Keep creating! The is especially important at our market! Not only do we want you to return, but we want your customers to return to you. Keep making new designs and give them a reason to.

There’s no reason to spend a ton of money on your display. More than likely you have everything you need right in your home. Take note of these cool jewelry holders made out of recycled shoe boxes and wooden dowels. Clever!

Though we don’t provide tents and canopies to vendors, don’t let it stop you from bringing your own! Aside from the obvious shade it will provide you against the draining Atlanta sun, a tent is also an opportunity to give your booth a more shop-like feel by adding a roof and tangible boundaries.

Running close to $100, it’s definitely worth the investment if you plan on vending more than one Saturday. (Which of course we recommend that you do!) We’ve took the liberty of locating a few on the interwebs for you. Try here, here, and here.

We highly encourage you to get super creative with your booth display. No matter how you lay it out, you’ll probably have a table in there somewhere. So where are you supposed to find one?

We have some tables available to our vendors for a nominal cost, but nonetheless, it may behoove (yes, we said behoove) you to just invest in your own. Nowadays they are portable, relatively inexpensive, and you can get one here, here, and here.
